Kikuyu writer and academic Ngugi Wa Thiongo is still alive and kicking, his son Mukoma has clarified following several circulating stories that he had passed on.
The reports started emerging on Monday evening and a section of Kenyans posted on their timelines while others shared the misleading posts.
Mukoma, who is also a writer and poet, said he was actually with his dad when the reports emerged.
“Not again with the death rumours! Baba @NgugiWaThiongo_ is here – talking to him as I write this. To be sure, death is inevitable for all of us – but there is no need to invite it sooner,” he tweeted.
Mukoma’s sister Wanjiku added saying: “It is just another rumour! All is well!”
Wa Thiongo, 84, is currently living in the US and is behind several prolific novels, plays, short stories, and essays, ranging from literary and social criticism to children’s literature.
