Wawira Njiru Named UN Person Of The Year 2021

Entrepreneur Wanjru Njiru has this year been feted with the much-coveted prize of UN Person of the year award for her work with Food for Education.

Wawira was accompanied by her family and team to receive the award at the UN offices in Gigiri, Nairobi, on Monday.

Food 4 Education is an NGO founded by Wawira that provides meals to children in public schools and currently feeds over 33,000 children from humble backgrounds at subsidized prices.

Wawira took to her social media accounts to relay her gratitude.

“Honored and grateful to receive this year’s UN Person of the Year Award by the @unitednations Kenya. I didn’t start @food4education with much and it’s wild to me that we’re here. I’m very excited for what’s next and very thankful for the journey. #FeedingTheFuture,” she wrote.

Wawira, who is also Youtuber Wanjiru Njirus sister, has seen an outpour of congratulatory messages from big names in the country including Martha Karua.
