The Macondo Literature Festival is set to kick off on September 30 at the Kenya Cultural Centre with a live stream on YouTube for some parts of the festival.
The theme for this year’s event is “The Future of Memories” and will feature guest appearances and moderators from across Africa.
Film director Wanuri Kahiu is set to attend the event on October 2nd whereby she’ll be speaking about the science of fiction storytelling in movies and how it affects the future of Africa.
The 3-day event is part of the Macondo Book Society – a non-profit organization founded by journalist Anja Bengelstorff and award-winning Kenyan author Yvonne Adhiambo Owuor – which seeks to organize regular literary festivals to promote authors of African descent.
It will have workshops and talks that will also see the 2021 Literature Nobel Prize laureate Abdulrazak Gurnah give a talk. The event will be moderated by Dr Mshai Mwangola.
This year’s event will see a strong lineup of guest appearances across Africa and will also be live-streamed on Youtube.
