Wangechi’s Back – Drops New Heat!

It’s been a challenging couple of years for an artist who has achieved the highest highs and the lowest lows since her first major break onto the Kenya’s music scene. She’s still so young – but it seems as though everything she has gone through – including that devastating crash that took the life of her best friend – has only served to strengthen both her voice and her spirit.

Wangechi is back – just in case you didn’t know.

Support for the rapper has always been there. She represents the emerging nu wave of artists who influence both in terms of their music, their style choices and their attitudes. I genuinely hate the term “Milennial” but if there was ever an artist who fit the bill, it’s Wangechi. She’s young. She has an avid following on social media and she sets trends. She does things differently. And she’s not afraid to do so.

Her new EP has dropped – titled ‘Don’t Consume If Seal Is Broken’.

Released last Friday for free download on her website, the long awaited project follows her return to the scene last year and is already creating buzz.

And she couldn’t have chosen a better time for the release – sharing the stage with the award winning rapper from the UK, Tinie Tempah and renowned DJ Tim Westwood at the just concluded Jameson Connects Party.

She says that the new album provides a glimpse into her current current state of mind. It consists of 10 songs including a bonus track and follows her hiatus from music in the wake of her accident in 2014.

The ten track EP will only be available on her website  and features collaborations with Didge, rapper Taio Tripper – formerly of Camp Mulla and the up and coming rap group 125.

Some of the producers’ behind the EP are ’ Mugo ‘Waithaka’ Ng’ang’a, Festus and her long time producer and collaborator Kevin Provoke while veteran producer Eric Musyoka’s Decimal records took charge of mastering.

The next release from the album is the bonus tune: “Here’s To Us”. That drops  this week.

Wangechi is about that work. Sounds like she’s here to stay.
