Victoria Rubadiri Bags The Prestigious BBC Komla Dumor Award

Citizen TV anchor Victoria Rubadiri has taken home the 2020 BBC World News Komla Dumor Award.

The news was officially announced by BBC earlier this morning making Victoria Rubadiri the sixth winner of the award since it’s inception.

Speaking during an interview this morning on Citizen TV, Victoria revealed that she has kept the secret for a few months.

”You know I’m still trying to come to terms with the fact that it’s here and it’s out now. I’ve known the news for a couple of months now the tough part was trying to keep it a secret.”

She then explained the process it took for her to get the award amongst many other talented African journalists.

“It’s extremely humbling, to get this kind of validation is about” she revealed about the win.

Kenyans have swarmed social media with hearty congratulatory messages to Victoria after her win.



Victoria Rubadiri is the second Kenyan to bag the prestigious BBC award. Back in 2018, Waihiga Mwaura was the first to win the award. He sent a congratulatory message to Rubadiri saying he truly cannot think of a more deserving journalist.
