Veteran Vihoja Mahakami Actor Gibson Mbugua Passes Away

Veteran actor Gibson Mbugua, popularly known for his role as a prosecutor on KBC’s Classic Vioja Mahakamani, has passed away aged 56.

Mbugua’s death was announced by his son early morning on December 22. The actor passed away while at Mediheal Hospital in Eldoret where he had been hospitalized.

“Good morning friends and family… This morning I have received a phone call from Mediheal Hospital informing me that our brother Gibson has rested. It’s been a journey but in all God is still on the throne,” his family said.

Mbugua became a household name in the late 80s, and early 90s because of his acting skills. Popularly known as “Kiongozi wa Mashtaka” in the program, the actor starred alongside Lucy Wangui (Magistrate) and Hiram Mungai (Ondiek Nyuka Kwota) for three decades to build not only a recognisable character but one beloved by all.

On June 13, Uhuru helped Gathu with Ksh2 million to undergo a kidney transplant.  He sent his donation during the fundraising event that took place at Charter Hall in Nairobi.

The transplant was carried out at Mediheal Hospital and Mbugua confirmed that his health had improved shortly after.

“I have been in the hospital since July 18, 2022, and I was discharged on August 3, 2022. I feel so good.

“I am full of energy. I think dialysis had taken a toll on me. Now I am slowly going back to my usual self. God is so good,” he announced.
