December has arrived! Not sneakily, tiptoeing, trying to go unnoticed or blending in with the wallpaper, but dressed to the nines, glitzy and glamorous in fiery red lipstick. ‘I am here!’ It seems to say. With it comes a sigh of relief for having made it through the year, anticipation for that Christmas to New Year leave you booked months ago and best of all, the Events!
The Tribe Hotel is home to the most anticipated fashion event in Nairobi, Tribal Chic. Now in its 7th year, this annual event is all about recognizing and appreciating fashion, both locally and internationally, for a great cause, as all its proceeds go to charity. Up and coming local designers are given a chance at showing their talent, as well as combining it with established designers. House hold names such as Adele Dejak, Qaal Designs, Niku Singh and KikoRomeo, who will be showcasing their 2017 collection, are set to be on the lineup along with Katungulu Mwendwa, Sally Karagu, Anyango Mpinga and Deepa Dosaja.
Something quite different about this year’s event is that in addition to hosting the fashion show this weekend, Saturday 3rd Dec. Tribal Chic will also, for the first time, include a pop up fashion market where designers, local and international, will set up shop at the hotel and leverage from the 200 guests expected at the event.
All proceeds from this year’s event will go towards supporting the Soma Soma initiative, started back in 2012 by MTV Award winner, Sauti Sol to advocate for education for all the youth in Kenya and Africa. Be sure to pick up your ticket at the front desk of the Tribe Hotel for KES 5,500/- advance and KES 7,000/- at the door (if any are left.) Ticket price includes champagne cocktails, canapes and a gift bag.
