Other than the amazing tourist spots we know and love the culinary scene in Nairobi is also a huge part of what one can enjoy in the city.
Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife, Hon. Najib Balala took part in launching a gastronomy video that showcased the city of Nairobi as a rich harbor for gourmet cuisines that transcend various cultures from local to abroad.
“I am proud to say that we started the gastronomy journey here in Kenya back in 2019, and it has become a rapidly growing component of the attractiveness of tourism destinations in recent years.” Najib Balala
The video tells the Nairobi top-tier food scene through the eyes of both local and international chefs. It features 6 restaurants; Boho Eatery, The View, Graze, Chop House, INTI, and Nyama Mama.
“Every time I walk into a kitchen especially here in Kenya, the first thing that comes to mind and what I can see is a smile. It is a human being that wants to experience a different lifestyle,” said the executive chef at Sankara, Alfredo Romero.
Gastronomy tourism in Kenya seems to have a reputation for its variety and also its deep cultural essence.
“Our menus are designed based on our key ethos which is conscious and sustainable living. We wanted to change people’s perspective about what vegan and vegetarian food is,” said the Chef Patron at Boho Eatery, Sarah Saleheen.
The Backdrop Agency production seeks to encourage Kenyans to explore their gourmet options and try out different cuisines from all around the world currently available to them.
“Mediterranean diet is the healthiest food in the world right now. I have seen a lot of changes in the last four years. When I first came most people only liked NyamaChoma. Now it is a little bit different. They are looking for different foods, different flavours,” said the executive chef at Movenpick Hotel, Aris Athanasiou from Greece.
