Suspenseful drama Ayaanle premiered in Kenya at an exclusive screening event that took place at the Prestige Cinema. Directed by seasoned filmmaker Ahmed Farah, this is a tale exploring radicalization and terrorism from an African perspective.
The storyline revolves around 21-year-old Ayaanle (Barkhad Abdirahman) of Somali descent. He aspires to make it big in Hollywood as an actor. However, he only ends up getting stereotypical roles as a terrorist to his disappointment.
Despite his conservative and humble upbringing, he remains optimistic about succeeding in the film industry, like Denzel Washington. However, the narrative takes a different turn when Ayaanle gets into trouble after a series of events leading him to become the most wanted terrorist in Kenya.
The film’s cast features some of Somali and Kenya’s top actors. They include Barkhad Abdirahman, Pascal Tokodi, Abdirizak Ahmed, Blessing Lungaho, Mariam Ali, Keith Chuaga, Amina Mohamed, and Isaboke Nyakundi, among others.
The premier was graced by the cast & crew members, media, and film industry players who turned up to celebrate.
Ayaanle will be hitting the cinema screen in July. Venues and dates are to be confirmed soon.
