2016 was a pretty good year when it came to top flight international celebrities choosing to spend some time in Kenya – and 2017 is off to a great start in that regards as well, it seems.
The house music impresario Deadmau5 is in the 254 – and Magical Kenya should probably use him as a tourism marketing ambassador, given all the shoutouts he’s already handed out to some of our country’s major draws.
Yes, tourists come to Kenya primarily for the nightlife – so let’s embrace that. But the uptake is that they probably also leave with a very changed view of what their idea of Kenya had initially been all about.
He’s strictly here in a tourist capacity this time around – initially, there had been some buzz that he would be performing at an event at some stage, but he quickly put that to rest.
And he did what any self respecting tourist on a mission to see some animals would do – pop into the Giraffe Manor!

Real name Joel Thomas Zimmerman, Deadmau5 is a record producer and DJ from Toronto, Canada and has worked with some of the biggest named in the business. Electro House and Progressive House will be salivating at the thought that he could be back – this time in a performance category. He’s critically acclaimed also – having received 6 grammys for his work so far.

And for the serious EDM fans who keep tabs on his work and all the music he puts out – he’s about to release a brand new album. Well, maybe not new, but “fresh”. The artist is coming out with a 20-strong collection of old and new tracks via iTunes following the release of his new full-length album last month. Hopefully it will be out next month and will feature old re-mastered tracks.
I’ve already got my celebrity musician wish list for 2017 down pat! If we can keep luring some of the biggest names to the 254 – then we continue to give the city and the wider country even more leverage as an actual musical hub within Africa.
Welcome to Kenya, Deadmau5. And keep your eye on the warthogs.
