She is a fairly new name on the Kenyan music scene but she is willing to do the legwork to make sure her name sticks in the minds of her 254 fans.
US-based Afro House, Soul and Hip Hop budding talent Mumbi is in the city to promote her new EP ‘For The Culture’. The 5 track body of work features the singles: “Yours”, “Intro”, “Soweto”, “Good Enough” and “Too Much” and is her biggest career move.
Speaking about her return to Kenya, Mumbi says: “I chose to launch the EP in Kenya because everything begins at home. Kenya is my home and what better way to launch something than at home first. I wrote most of the songs on the EP at a time in my life where I had taken some time off to regroup”. She also hinted plans for the future, “I plan on moving back to home and definitely working on a new album from Kenya.”
Mumbi is concurrently working on her debut album, which is expected to be ready by September 2018. Taking advantage of her stay in Kenya, she intends to collaborate with top Kenyan acts including Khaligraph Jones, Steph Kapela, Xtatic and Camp Mulla.
Mumbi has performed with Jazz Bands at various music festivals in Miami. Miami’s diverse culture coupled with international travel allowed her to resonate with various forms of art and a deep love for music. Her musical influences include Brenda Fassie, Erykah Badu, Sade and Lauryn Hill.
As we get in tune with Mumbi’s music, be sure to grab her EP on the streaming App Mdundo.
