Kenyan-born Hollywood actor Edi Gathegi, known for his roles in hit TV series The Blacklist and StartUp, was recently spotted in Kenya on a low-key tour. The actor, who has also appeared in popular movies such as X-Men and The Twilight Saga, is in the country on holiday and is reportedly involved in projects aimed at improving the local film industry.
During his visit, Gathegi met with the Kenya Tourism Board boss John Chirchir and discussed various ways in which Hollywood and the Kenyan film industry could collaborate. He also spent time with local filmmakers, including Eugene Mbugua, and Sauti Sol lead singer Bien Aime-Baraza, discussing the Kenyan creative space and potential opportunities for collaboration.
Gathegi’s visit to Kenya follows his recent appearance in the Netflix movie The Last Thing He Wanted, in which he starred alongside Hollywood heavyweights Ben Affleck, Anne Hathaway, Rosie Perez, and Willem Dafoe. The actor has also been praised for his roles in other high-profile films and TV shows.
Gathegi’s visit to Kenya is yet another example of Kenyan talent making waves on the international stage, with the likes of Lupita Nyong’o also achieving great success in Hollywood. It is hoped that collaborations between Hollywood and the Kenyan film industry will continue to grow, leading to more opportunities for local talent to shine.
