The highly publicized and anticipated Sol Fest Concert finally took place last night at the Carnivore Grounds. As soon as the gates were opened, fans thronged the venue in their thousands. They had high expectations of getting an amazing show.
Sol Fest sponsors include reputable corporates such as Radio Africa, Homeboyz Entertainment, Sol Generation, Schweppes, Odi Beats, and Jameson among others. There was a variety of sold merchandise, food, and drinks for attendees to enjoy through the concert.
Sol Fest was hosted by popular DJs and radio hosts DJ Xclusive and CNG the DJ. As per the organizers’ promise, all the artists who were in the lineup performed. Apart from the live performances from the artists, there were also intervals of dope DJ mixes by super spin masters DJ Shawn 254, DJ Dream, and CNG the DJ.
Starting off on the live performances was sultry-voiced The Only Rosa. The Inside singer rocked the crowd with her amazing vocals and dance moves setting the pace for the night.
She was followed by multitalented rapper Maandy Kabaya who performed various hits including the popular Sirudi Home. Excitement was in the air as fans kept chanting for more music.
Then entered rap group Wakadinali who were received lots of love from the fans. They went on to perform fan favorites such as Avoid Those People, Umoroto, and Geri Inengi among others. Rapper Femi One came in next with mad energy. Her performance featured hits such as Balance, Properly, and Utawezana.
Chris Kaiga followed and he did not disappoint. He served nothing but the renditions of his songs such as I Want, Zimenice, Chain Chain, and Kwa Ceiling among others. Bensoul came in next as the first Sol Generation artist for the night. His set had songs such as Medicine, Peddi, and Niombee. Bensoul also invited fellow singer Mutoriah to perform their hit Tosheka. Nviiri The Storyteller took the stage right after with eclectic performances of his hits Pombe Sigara, Birthday Song, Niko Sawa, Bar, and Baridi just to mention a few.
The last part of the live shows was an over 2 hour-long set of the stars of the night, Sauti Sol. The excitement from both the fans and band filled the air as it had been 2 years since Sauti Sol last performed in Nairobi. The first and last segments of their set had Sauti Sol hits such as Brighter Days, Africa, Suzzanah, Isabella, Kuliko Jana, Melanin, Live and Die In Afrika, Insecure, Feel My Love, Nenda Lote, Sober, and My Everything among others.
The mid segment of Sauti Sol’s set had their Alone Together projects. Chimano performed his hit Friday Feeling, Savara Balance, Fancy Fingers Rhumba Toto, and Bien Mbwe Mbwe in which he invited Aaron Rimbui to showcase his keyboard skills live. Before closing the show, Sauti Sol performed their debut hit Lazizi as a special tribute to their day-one fans.
Fans were clearly feeling the show if their excitement was anything to go by. Additionally, the concert was sold out and there were no gate tickets. #SolFest was trending at number one on Twitter with a lot of positive commentaries. We can only hope that this show is the beginning of more Sol Fests to come.
