Late last year we saw the grand gesture by Smirnoff to gather young budding Deejays in the country and put them up against each other to see who’s king.
Dubbed Smirnoff Battle Of The Beats ended on 22nd December and DJ Roudge was crowned King scooping the ultimate prize of Pioneer decks, laptop and a contract. The second runners up were DJ Zack The Maestro scooped some momentum off the competition and he is doing well for himself this year.
Zack kicked off his career in Mombasa as a dancer then switched to deejay crisscrossing Nairobi and the Coast. He did rub shoulders with artists and peers in the industry for 3 years and his big break came from the Sminorff competition.
The energy afterward saw him tour Kampala and rock the crowd. Locally he is the resident DJ at upscale joints XS Millionaire and Marquee.
Another worthy contestant was the only female disk jockey from Ruiru by the name Yung K. Her star was bright during the competition as the solo female jockey and all eyes were on her. Her skills and professionalism was praised by the panel keeping her momentum up.
Yung K did not make it to the final 3 but that was the start of her journey into the Nairobi Deejaying scene. She is the resident Dj at the newest joint in town Milan. Dedicating her work ethic, self-belief and hard works, she has a platform to take over the industry. Young K hopes to have a country-wide tour soon with other Djs and opening a studio.
The Smirnoff battle of the beats was the perfect launch pad for the two Djs, Zack The Maestro and Young T where the world is just ready for their takeover. They are tested and tried on the decks so delivery is much easier.
