Showmax’s New Original Series, “Faithless,” Explores The Criminal Lives Of Four Church Women

Streaming giant Showmax has announced yet another new original series titled “Faithless.” The series will premiere on 6th July 2023. It is a 10-part crime drama that promises to captivate audiences with its thrilling narrative and relatability.

“Faithless” revolves around the aftermath of a failed heist. It intricately follows the journey of four church members who find themselves caught in a world of crime and violence. What starts as an innocent women’s guild, known as a chama, turns into a money laundering operation orchestrated by a ruthless crime lord. The story takes an intriguing turn when Esther, a struggling waitress, discovers the stolen loot and learns that her own brother, Benja, was involved in the heist.

As Esther tries to navigate this dangerous situation, she is pursued by Cain. This is a vindictive criminal who suffered significant losses during the failed robbery. Cain’s relentless pursuit adds a sense of urgency to the plot. It further forces Esther and her church friends, Ruth, Hope, and Deborah, to confront a moral dilemma. Will they use the ill-gotten gains for good or succumb to the temptations that come with such a large sum of money?

The talented cast of “Faithless” includes Rosemary Waweru (Tabasamu) as Esther, alongside Avril Nyambura (Pepeta), Beatrice Mwai (Paa), and Fatma Mohammed (Kina) as her three church friends. The series also features Aleks Kamau (Volume), Morris Mwangi (Famous), Peter Kamau (Selina), Arabron Nyyneque (Second Family), Abubakar Mwenda (Subira), Brian Ngaira (Pepeta), Antony Kyule Njuguna (Sue na Jonnie), Ashley Kareez (Single Kiasi), Steve Matias (State House), Kennedy Luyali (18 Hours), Zawadi Kayyoh (Pieces of Us), and news anchor Mark Masai.

“Faithless” is produced by Live Eye TV and directed by Abdi Shuria, King Muriuki (who both previously worked on the Showmax thriller “Igiza”), and Janet Chumbe (Sanura). The series explores the unique twist of church adherents being involved in criminal activities, making it a truly distinctive show. The focus on women as central characters also adds depth and relatability, resonating with the everyday lives and challenges faced by women in society.

Executive producer Auka Gecheo emphasizes the uniqueness of “Faithless” and its ability to speak to the lives of viewers, particularly the women in their audiences. The series delves into the conflicts between faith and money. As well as the justifications people make for their actions and sins in the name of the “greater good.” This exploration of inner turmoil and moral dilemmas adds an intriguing layer to the storyline, creating a thought-provoking viewing experience.

“Faithless” is the fifth Showmax Original series to be released in Kenya in 2023. It follows the success of the drama series “Single Kiasi” (season two), the first Original telenovela in Kenya “Second Family,” and the reality series “The Real Housewives of Nairobi” and “Kyallo Kulture” (upgraded to an original in season two).

As “Faithless” prepares to make its debut, viewers can expect an enthralling crime drama that explores the complexities of human nature, faith, and the allure of money.
