Showmax to Release “RHON 2,” “Big Girl Small World,” “Untying Kantai,” and “Nilichoma” This May

Streaming service Showmax is set to air a remarkable array of Original local productions as it gears up for its official re-launch in Kenya in May 2024. So far, the service has already captured audiences with its stellar roster of African Originals released in the early months of the year. Showmax plans to debut an unprecedented four Showmax Originals in Kenya this May.

The Real Housewives of Nairobi Season 2

Among the eagerly awaited releases is Season 2 of the breakout reality series “The Real Housewives of Nairobi.” It returns after its record-setting debut in 2023 as Showmax Kenya’s most-viewed first episode for any title. The series also clinched the “Best TV Show” title at the Kalasha Awards 2024, a recognition shared with “Pepeta,” another Showmax Original that bagged awards for “Best TV Drama” and “Best Viewers’ Choice.”

Big Girl Small World

Anticipation builds for the new romantic comedy series “Big Girl Small World.” This is brought to life by an all-female team of writers and director Nick Mutuma.

Untying Kantai

“Untying Kantai,” is a dramedy by Abel Mutua and Philip Karanja of Philit Productions. This duo is known for their award-winning work in “Sue na Jonnie,” “A Grand Little Lie”, and “Click Click Bang.”


“Nilichoma” is the first Kenyan Original Showmax docuseries, chronicling the stories of well-known Kenyans who faced financial windfalls and subsequent downfalls.

Additionally, fans can catch weekly episodes of the hit drama “Single Kiasi S3” until May 27. Following its four nominations at the Kalasha Awards 2024, “Single Kiasi” remains among Showmax’s top 10 most-watched shows of 2023.

May also welcomes international sensations, like the top-grossing film of 2023, “Barbie,” by Greta Gerwig, which has amassed over 180 awards. Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer,” another box office giant and recipient of more than 300 awards including seven Oscars, will also feature in Showmax’s offerings. With these additions, Showmax will host the three largest global box office hits of 2023. For series enthusiasts, Showmax will offer HBO’s True Detective: “Night Country,” the most acclaimed season of the series, and the express arrival of “House of the Dragon’s” second season starting June 17, 2024.

Emma Gichonge, Showmax GM in East Africa, highlighted the platform’s commitment to diverse storytelling, underscored by its record 26 nominations at the Kalasha Awards. With over 1,300 hours of new Showmax Originals set for release across Africa in 2024, subscribers can look forward to an extensive selection of fresh content.

Lastly, Showmax Premier League, the continent’s first exclusive Premier League service, promises to continue delivering captivating matches from the globe’s premier league as the 2023/2024 season concludes.
