Showmax Original Series ‘County 49’ Premieres At An Exclusive Event

Showmax political drama series County 49 premiered in style at an invite-only event that took place at the Nairobi Street Kitchen. The guests were treated to an exclusive screening of the first episode of the new Kenyan Showmax Original series.

County 49 is the 5th Showmax Original series in Kenya. Its storyline revolves around the political travails of the fictional Bwatele County, Kenya’s 49th county and the nation’s breadbasket. A county whose citizens struggle with a high cost of living and scarce resources despite its vast wealth.

Hosted by the bubbly Martin Githinji (who is also part of the cast) the event was graced by several County 49 cast members. They include Wakio Mzenge, Nyokabi Macharia, Peter Kawa, Angela Mwandanda, Ainea Ojiambo, and Nick Kwach among others.

The crew was represented by series director Likarion Wainaina, producer Millicent Ogutu, writer Brian Munene, and story consultant John Sibi Okumu among others. Also in attendance were directors of the Showmax Originals Igiza and Single Kiasi, and several media representatives.

Speaking about the series after the screening, series director Likarion stated that the film had nothing to do with Kenya’s current political climate. “I’m not a politician, and it (County 49) coming out at such a time has nothing to do with politics. This is simply a story that needed to be told because the issues the show tackles affect all of us.”

In addition to that, Likarion applauded Showmax for the strides made in the industry and for allowing Kenyan filmmakers to push the boundaries of story-telling in Kenya. His sentiments were further seconded by the series writer Brian Munene who said thanked Showmax for putting Africa first.

County 49 officially premieres on Showmax on Thursday 25 August 2022, with new episode releases every Thursday.
