Shiro Of ‘Auntie Boss’ ’18 hours’, Bag Top AMVCA Awards

NTV’s comedy show Auntie Boss actress Nice Wanjeri popularly known as Shiro emerged a top winner in the just concluded 6th annual African Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards (AMVCAs) in Lagos Nigeria.

Wanjeri topped her category by beating big Nollywood names and surprising many. In her speech, she was just as emotional as everyone else present for the awards after winning the coveted award.

“Oh my God! Fast of all God ni mso and I want to thank everyone who voted. This is my first time to board a plane and I came to Nigeria and from being nominated for the first time to winning an award is beyond my wildest dreams,” she said.

Wanjeri, however, broke many hearts after sharing that her contract on the show wasn’t renewed.

“I don’t know what to do, I won but people will no longer see me in the show after my contract was not renewed,” Wanjeri said.

18 Hours, a Kenyan film which was inspired by a true event of a rookie paramedic who spends 18 hours in an ambulance to save the life of an accident casualty, was voted the Overall Best Movie in the awards, becoming the first Kenyan production to ever do so.

The film had been nominated for five awards and ended up taking home three. Phoebe Ruguru won two of them for Best Movie in East Africa and Best Overall Movie.
