Sharon Momanyi leaves Standard Media Group after 10 years

Sharon Momanyi, an award-winning journalist and former news anchor at Standard Media Group, has announced her departure from the company. In a statement released on April 6, Momanyi confirmed that she left the Mombasa Road-based station on April 2, 2023, after serving in various positions since joining as an intern in 2013.

Momanyi, who won the Media Council of Kenya’s Annual Journalism Excellence Award in 2018, is known for her human-interest stories and sustainable development reportage. She also works as a communications consultant for development organizations, designing messages to inform and influence policy.

In her exit speech, Momanyi expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work at Standard Media Group and for the impact she was able to create during her tenure. She did not disclose her next move.

“I’m grateful for all the wins and lessons we have shared, the impact we’ve created, and the friendships made. It’s time to bid adieu, I pray for the success of our newsroom and the best for you my dear colleagues,” she wrote.

Momanyi graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations and Electronic Media from Daystar University in 2010 and holds a Master’s Degree in International Relations and Affairs from the United States International University-Africa.

Momanyi’s departure from Standard Media Group follows a string of resignations from other employees, including veteran radio presenter Hassan Mwana Wa Ali, news editor Fredrick Odeo Sirari, KTN presenter Frank Otieno, senior editor Ted Malanda, broadcast director Jacob Ayoo, Dr. Mercy Korir, and foreign affairs editor Lilian Odera.
