In the last two weeks, Sauti Sol has been having a tongue in cheek comments about Khaligraph Jones and vice-versa but we all knew something must have been brewing.
Today at 10 am, the two acts who are currently enjoying top-flight success in their individual musical careers dropped a new jam titled ‘Rewind’. This is the fourth single off the upcoming LP dubbed ‘African Sauce’ and the official release for March.
Rewind is pretty much a narrative of the come up, struggle behind the scenes before they hit it big. The Afro-pop tune with a stand out guitar presentation from Polycarp is a perfect gel of melodies, rap, and vocals that wind up with a great video shot by UK’s top director Sesan.
Sauti Sol’s Bien highlights the journey vividly “Tulidandia matatu. Tukachezwa kwa matatu. Ona leo tunachorwa kwa matatu. Damu, jasho na machozi tu mwanangu! Uliza kiatu”. Khali also goes in “I remember doing shows bila pay. I swear it wasn’t easy but still I prayed. Nikipiga toughees maboyz walipiga Js. But now I got a bunch of kicks to give away (ah!)”.
I’d rate the jam a 9/10 because it’s memorable, has a story, well executed and I bet if you want to know the story of both Sauti Sol and Khaligraph Jones, the throwback photos on the video will keep you pausing at every moment.
