Safaricom just launched a music streaming service dubbed, ‘Songa By Safaricom’. The service will be accessible as an app on Android mobile devices and provides one-touch access to music across all major genres, giving subscribers the convenience of listening to their favorite music on their smartphones.
In a nutshell, the app curates, codifies and classifies a vernacular, local and international music catalog with over two million songs from over 400,000 artists. That means you can stream your favorite musicians like Wizkid, Usher, Chris Brown, Beyonce and Davido on your smartphone for some pocket change.
The App offers online and offline play, track and full album downloads, playlist creation and an ability to share links with other subscribers and will launch with a free 14-day trial. Thereafter, take up a subscription plan from KES 25/= a day, KES 150/= weekly or KES 499/= monthly.
Songa has cemented a working relationship with major international and African music labels and aggregator including Sony Music Entertainment, Africori, Africha, Ngoma and Expedia, and is at an advanced stage of negotiation with other labels.
