As usual, Safaricom International Jazz Festival always has something fresh and exciting in store. This year being its 3rd annual; it’s even bigger and greater! Gracing the stage is a three-time Grammy Award Winner Branford Marsalis. Widely recognized and celebrated for his work in Jazz, most especially, as a saxophonist. Originally a member of Wynton Marsalis Quintet and later on formed Branford Marsalis Quartet. Over the years, Branford’s gift has refined and expanded his repertoire beyond that of a performer and a bandleader but also as a composer and educator.
Other supporting artists include: Jef Neve, Maya Beltsitzman and Matan Ephrat, Giampaolo Nuti and Francesco D’Orazio, Sons of Kemmet and Siya Makuzeni amongst others.
The event not only brings together talented musicians across Africa and beyond, but, it also plays a significant role in the growth of Kenyan Jazz scene. All Proceeds from the event goes to Ghetto classics, a musical initiative in Korogocho aiming towards youth empowerment. All the more reason to attend.
