The Rusinga Island Festival is one of the most popular cultural events that takes places away from Nairobi – and receives its fair share of VIP attendees!
It’s one of a number of well known events that shine a light on the food, culture and lifestyle of a particular community of area to great effect – much like the Lamu and Turkana iterations of the same.
And now Rusinga fest is back. The celebration of Suba Culture on Rusinga island will be devoted to arts, craft, music and food and will take place on the 20th and the 21st of December in Homa Bay County.

The annual 2 day celebration is traditionally held a couple of days before Christmas and is administered through the Chula Cultural Foundation.
The festival takes on a more serious tone, with its aim of facing head one, some of the challenges afflicting the community in the past – whether that is HIV and AIDS or dangerous fishing practices.
