Reel County Film Festival Returns For A 3rd Edition

The Reel County Film Festival is back for its 3rd edition. It follows past successful runs. The upcoming edition takes place from 13th to 17th February 2023. According to organizers, this edition will provide a wholesome film discussion featuring screenings, critique sessions, panel discussions, and cash prizes.

Founded by the Kenya Film Commission (KFC), this contest aims to promote the film industry across the 47 counties of Kenya. Under the theme ‘My county, my story,’ this initiative will provide a platform for local filmmakers to congregate and exchange knowledge and capacities. All in order to make a stronger impact on the cultural, social, and economic development of audio-visual products in the counties.

To participate, one can make submissions in the following categories – Feature Films (minimum 60 mins), Short films (7-40 mins), Documentaries (20-40 mins), and Animation (5-10 mins). The content must not only be produced by filmmakers from the counties but should also tell stories of those counties. The submission deadline is 3rd February 2023.

All Reel County Film Festival submissions will be reviewed by a 5-member jury selected by KFC. Only the top 3 submissions in each category will be screened during the festival. Furthermore, the Commission will award the producers of the content a screening fee of KES 100,000 in all the categories for at least 8 screenings.
