A once-popular vernacular radio presenter has opted to choose a rather dreaded path in an effort to settle a huge debt that has pushed him almost to nothing.
Peter Muthee Kaindigo is selling his kidney for Ksh 300,000 to clear debts that have accumulated from borrowing and pressure from relatives since he lost his radio job at Wendo FM in 2019.
Professor wa Rhumba, as he was popularly known in his radio show, was sent home after Wendo FM closed shop due to financial constraints. This sent him to a series of manual jobs with his last being a butcher.
“I landed a job as a presenter at a local Radio station in Meru after my graduation. I worked for a year drawing Ksh5,000 salary a month,” says Kaindigo who graduated at Rongo University with a degree in journalism.
“The salary would be raised to Ksh 7,000 after 12 months of toiling and moiling. My heart sunk when the station was shut down due to financial constraints.”
He says relatives who took him to school are now demanding their money and he’s under a lot of pressure.
“I borrowed a lot to survive. I had signed an agreement with some of my relatives to pay back the money they spent on my education once I finished University,” he said.
