Popular Music Show The Beat Ends Longtime Partnership With NTV

The Beat, the longest local music show in Kenya, will stop airing on Nation Media’s NTV after a 14-year partnership.

Announcing the move on their official social media pages, The Beat issued a statement saying that they have not renewed their contract, which ends in about a week, and will be moving to a new station.

They however didn’t share their next move but many were quick to claim Citizen TV has poached them.

“To everyone who has watched us over the last 14 years, supported us, criticized us, sent a shout out, we are happy to have been in this long journey together,” posted the show.

“The show comes to an end on NTV and we moving to shape the Kenyan music industry keep it locked on our new YouTube channel and social media handles for updates.”

The show, which is one of the most watched music programs in East Africa, was veteran DJ Pinye’s brainchild. The 47-year-old started the show after also deejaying for Nation and Capital FM in late 90s and early 2000s.
