The creative space in Africa has plenty of grant opportunities that come with mentorship, and growth. More organizations are investing in the creative economy through strategic programs. Below are open grant opportunities available to Kenyan creatives listed in order of application deadlines:

Braid Arts and Culture Fund

The Trust for Indigenous Culture and Health (TICAH) and the Cultural Heritage for Inclusive Growth program by the British Council are calling for concepts for the Braid Arts & Culture Fund. This opportunity recognizes the interwoven nature of the art, culture, and cultural heritage sector, and its significant contributions to the broader community. It also provides grants to innovative artists and cultural practitioners involved in projects within Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda. Creativity Pioneers Fund

The Moleskine Foundation is once again calling for applications for its Creativity Pioneers Fund. This grant was created in 2021 to offer adaptable financial support of €5,000 to creative and cultural organizations. Furthermore, it aims to sustain the vital operations and initiatives of these organizations. The fund invests in organizations that are bold, inspiring, and inclusive, with a focus on addressing the challenges faced by communities. KOSINIMA Short Film Grant

Get funding for your short film through the KOSINIMA Short Film Grant. This is a grant fund for Black female filmmakers in Africa and the African diaspora. It provides a grant of $2,500 USD to a maximum of four filmmakers from the aforementioned regions per calendar year. The grant must be solely for film production purposes, such as hiring crew, securing locations, and paying talent, as well as post-production expenses. Boiler Room Broadcast Lab

Broadcast Lab is now in its eighth round of funding for innovative ideas within the broadcasting industry. This Boiler Room initiative in partnership with Jameson will be highlighting new and emerging voices in the field. The key focus is on programming concepts that prioritize underrepresented artists and communities to expand the scope of representation. The selected project will receive a grant of £9,000 to bring their vision to fruition. The application deadline is 19th May 2023. Apply now.

Jamlab Accelerator Programme

Jamlab Accelerator Programme (JAP) is seeking journalists and media professionals who are both creative and dedicated to transforming the sub-Saharan African media landscape by addressing its shortcomings. This six-month-long opportunity is specifically for startups that aim to introduce innovative products or services that appeal to new audiences or spark new discussions or concepts in the public sphere. Open Mag Curatorial Fellowship

Young African curators can now apply for the Open Mag Curatorial Fellowship. Sponsored by Africa No Filter, this fellowship seeks to provide funding, technical expertise, and inspiration for new projects in various artistic disciplines. Moreover, it covers a broad range of fields, including literature, film, music, visual art, photography, fashion, and media. Upon recommendation from the workshop instructors, four select project ideas will be offered funding – two of them $2,000 each and the other two $1,000 each. Design Intelligence Award

The Design Intelligence Award (DIA) is currently accepting submissions from creative individuals for their innovative ideas. The submissions should fit into one of four categories: Cultural Innovation, Life Wisdom, Industrial Equipment, or Digital Economy, and should be related to the overarching theme of “Design Evolution”.
