Omanyala Confirms 2023 World Athletics Indoor Tour

The fastest man in Africa, Ferdinand Omanyala, has confirmed that he will compete in the 2023 World Athletics Indoor Tour, which will take place in France.

Omanyala who has been in great form in 2022 had initially insisted he would not be taking part in the indoor competition. However, he has changed his decision citing his high fitness levels and is looking forward to the tour.

“The decision was made after noting that my body was in better shape a lot earlier than we expected,” Omanyala stated.

According to a statement from the organizers of the race, Omanyala will be joined by fellow athletic champions Kevin Mayer and Sasha Zhoya at the Miramas Metropole Stadium on February 3rd, 2023.

Earlier this, month Omanyala was nominated for the International Athlete of the Year for the Backtrack 2022 People’s Choice Awards on the back of an impressive win at the ASA Grand Prix in South Africa.

The 26-year-old is the 8th fastest man in the world after registering a time of 9.77 in September making him Africa’s fastest sprinter.

Despite Kenyans being known for long-distance running, Omanyala is looking to pave the way for future Kenyan sprinters as well.

“I believe I opened the way for so many people coming behind me. One of the things I wanted to do was leave behind a legacy. I want to leave an industry of sprint in Kenya,” he stated.
