Obunga FC Steals the Show in Penalty Shootout

Obunga FC, nicknamed “The Mighty,” displayed nerves of steel in the boys’ category. After a tense 1-1 draw against Uasin Gishu’s PASC Langa in regulation time, the drama unfolded during the penalty shootout. Dennis Okono (PASC Langa) inadvertently gifted Obunga an early lead with an own goal, but Alex Kamadi equalized for Langa in the 76th minute. Evans Oketch, the overjoyed head coach of Obunga FC, expressed his gratitude: “This victory is a dream come true! Competing for the first time and winning the national championship is incredible. We faced immense pressure with the home crowd behind us, but we persevered. Huge thanks to Safaricom for this amazing tournament and to my team and fans for their unwavering belief.”

Plateau Queens Retain Their Crown

The girls’ category saw a dominant performance by Plateau Queens. Reigning champions from Nyanza, they secured their second national title with a convincing 4-0 victory over Barcelona Ladies SC from Laikipia County. Emily Moranga opened the scoring with a powerful left-foot shot, followed by an own goal from Barcelona’s Pauline Pierae. Maureen Atieno added a spectacular acrobatic goal, and Swaum Masungo sealed the win with a late strike.

Plateau Queens’ head coach, Chrispine Odindo, was ecstatic: “We are overjoyed to be champions again! Winning the first edition and now this one showcases our dedication to nurturing young talent. Thank you to Safaricom, our fans, and my incredible players for making this dream a reality.”
