November has without a doubt been the month of good music after as the Kenyan music scene is concerned. Dope EPs and albums have been released during this second last month of the year and below are our favorite picks.
River Album – Muthoni Drummer Queen
This is MDQ’s 4th album. It is a 13 track collection with songs such as African Fever, Love Potion, Me, Think About You, Moonlight, and Greatness among others. River is MDQ’s 3rd collaborative project with Swiss producer duo Greg Escoffey (GR) and Jean Geissbuhler (Hook). From its beautiful cover art to the music and visuals, this album oozes MDQ’s signature eclectic style and experimental sound. A blend of various genres such as Hip Hop, Dancehall, Reggaeton, Soul, and RnB with undertones of traditional drum rhythms, this production is certified. Father Studies Album – Fancy Fingers
Father Studies is Fancy Fingers’ debut solo EP under Sauti Sol’s Alone-Together Project. Featuring songs such as Rhumba Toto and Amanda Pressure this is a beautiful 10 track collection of songs that address fatherhood and love. Fancy Fingers’ unique individual talents such as singing and dancing shine in this production giving fans a chance to see another side of him. It is available on popular streaming apps. Wanavokali Album- Wanavokali
This self-titled assembly is the sextet’s debut album. Packed with their signature beautiful harmonies, amazing music, and top-notch audio production, this album has 11 tracks some of which include Rhumba and Kula Tatu. 6 of its songs are solo features that were done to flaunt each individual member’s talent and the other 5 are sung together. This multi-genre album touches on various topics such as love, spirituality, and life. It is available on Youtube, Spotify, Audiomack, Apple Music, Boomplay, and Sound Cloud.
Bald Men Love Better EP – Bien & Aaron Rimbui
Yet another part of Sauti Sol’s Alone Together Project, this EP has 5 songs i.e. Mbwe Mbwe, Stamina, Bald Men Anthem, Coming Home, and Reset. Its great production is filled with amazing music addressing topics such as self-love, life, and positive vibes. A fusion of Afro-pop and Jazz genres Bald Men Love Better was created to entertain people across all generations. This collaboration between an Afro-Fusion star and a Jazz maestro is definitely certified, we can only hope for more collaborations between these two stars. The full album is available here.
Frisky Album – Maandy Kabaya
The Frisky album is Maandy’s 2nd album after her 2019 debut album. The 12 track album is a showcase of her versatility and talent as it is a blend of various genres such as Gengetone, Hip Hop, RnB, and experimental multigenre sounds. In this album, Maandy not only flaunts her rapping skills but also her storytelling, singing, and lyrical prowess. Otero Ep – Naiboi
Naiboi dropped this EP after a long hiatus and it is fire! The 10 track album features songs such as Kenya Power, Ready, and Monica just to mention a few. Its audios’ rich and incredible layering stand out. Naiboi who became even more popular after rebranding from Rapdamu due to his signature sing-along verses, adds a dash of Rapdamu, switching up the versatility in this EP.
