Hubert Nakitare aka Nonini who is popular for contribution to Genge music and the self-proclaimed ‘Godfather of Genge’ has landed a lucrative deal with the government.
Nonini has been appointed as the Chairman of the Performers Rights Society of Kenya (PRISK). The organization is charged with looking after the interest of artists, musicians and is mandated with collection and distribution of royalties.
Nonini now heads the organization whose board is filled with notable entertainment personalities such as Beatrice Achieng, David Mathenge, Irene Kariuki, Daddy Owen (Owen Mwatia), Ian Mbugua and SK Blue Samuel Kuria who are are all directors.
Nonini took to Social media to announce the fete and had this to say, ” Really humbled being appointed Chairman for Performers Rights Society of Kenya and ready to serve for music industry to take us to greater heights but most of all thanks to my board @priskkenya for believing in me.”
We hope Nonini being an artist will place the interest of his fellow artists at heart and let them get paid. We have been grappling with the issue of artists being ripped off their hard earned cash. The royalties end up in pockets of administrators and hidden charges.
Hope we can spot the difference this time around and all the best to Nonini.
