Actor Nick Ndeda recently linked up with Cheptoek Boyo for a candid sit down where he spoke in depth about his career.
Ndeda, who has appeared in top movies such as 18 hours, How to dream in Africa, Learning King and Sugar, said that at one point had to pull out his rap skills to land a top role.
The actor was still on campus and MTV Base series Shuga was auditioning for a young actor whose role would involve rapping.
Ndeda confessed that Anto Neosoul, who was among the judges, managed to organise a private audition for him after the panel went through almost 800 hopefuls and weren’t impressed.
Ndeda wasn’t aware of the first audition so when Nesoul managed to convince the other judges( including Lupita Nyongó) to meet him, he decided to give it his all.
Aside from Neosoul’s favour, there was another problem; rapper Octopizzo was the one shortlisted for the role and many felt like Ndeda didn’t stand a chance.
“I rapped, and Lupita got up and was amazed by my rapping skills. I wrote and recorded the song the night before the audition. I landed the role two days after the audition,” Ndeda said.
Ndeda went on to play a lead role in episodes 5 and 6 of Shuga 2: Love, Sex & Money from September 2011 to February 2012.
