Netflix Lowers Subscription Fees Amid Streaming Competition

Giant streamer Netflix has announced a reduction of their monthly subscription prices in Kenya. This move comes at a time of high competition in the streaming market.

The new Netflix rates will see customers pay KES 200 down from KES 300 for Mobile, KES 300 down from KES 700 for the basic package, KES 700 down from KES 1,100 for the standard package, and KES1,100 down from KES 1,450 for the Premium option.

In an official statement shared with the media, the streaming service noted that these price changes are effective from today. New subscribers will see the new price for the plans immediately while existing ones will begin to enjoy the new prices in their next billing cycle.

We’re always exploring ways to improve our members’ experience on Netflix. We know members have never had more choices when it comes to entertainment — and we’re more committed than ever to delivering an experience that doesn’t just meet, but exceeds their expectations.” Said Netflix

While Netflix has become popular among Kenyans, it still faces competition from other services such as Showmax and Amazon Prime. The price cut is not their only move to battle competition as they have also invested in both local and international original shows.

Netflix remains hopeful that their upcoming originals such as Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, Young, Famous & African season 2, and The Fallen Sun will keep their market share growing.
