Nation Media Group Launches Record Label, Signs Gloria Muliro, Jimmy Gait

Local media giant Nation Media Group has launched a new record label and is hoping to promote local talent in the country as more youths turn to talent for a living rather than the usual college-then-get-a-job format that has existed for decades.

Lit Music record label will scout for talents, manage their brands and trademarks. It will also coordinate the production, distribution, marketing and promotion of their music.

NMG believes Lit Music is the missing piece in the local music industry and will revolutionize the recording and management of artists, a thing that local artists –and managers– have struggled with for years.

“We are excited about this new venture. We believe through the new record label we will create something unique and fresh for the local artistes and make it easier for them to commercialise their talent,” NMG acting Chief Executive Officer Stephen Gitagama said.

Gloria Muliro, Jimmy Gait, Mwenye Haki, Redemption, Rachel Adiyo, and Hellena Ken have already been signed by the label. More artists are set to be launched on their website and Lit360, a lifestyle TV show that will air every Thursday on NTV at 10 pm.

“This record label is also an initiative by NMG to support the music industry in Kenya and find ways to make it efficient for local artistes to have transparency on revenues earned through various platforms, added Gitagama.

“I am delighted that we have received very good response from a number of artistes who have already signed up with Lit Music. This is part of our new revenue streams.”
