Nancy Jelagat and Lawrence Cherono achieved a Kenyan double win Over the weekend at the Valencia Marathon.
Jelagat who set a half marathon Personal Best in Berlin in August crossed the line in 2:19:31.
“It was my first time here in Valencia but I promise to come back,” said Jelagat.
“I’ve improved my personal best by 14 minutes, so I can’t ask for more.” She added.
Lawrance Cherono Wins Men’s Valencia Marathon
In Men’s Marathon; Lawrence Cherono won the race in a thrilling final effort, crossing the line in a season’s best of 2:05:12.
“I’m really pleased with my win,” said Cherono.
“The conditions today were not ideal to get quick times but I enjoyed the race and I will be back to improve my time.” He added.
Kenyan Philemon Kacheran came in third behind Ethiopian Chalu Deso.
Geoffrey Kamworor Makes Triumphant Return From An Injury
Marathoner Geoffrey Kamworor also made a triumphant return to the sport, emerging Fourth with a personal best time of 2:05:23.
“Coming back after an injury is a journey of ups and downs.” He posted after the race
“I am so happy I am able to race again at this level. It gives me confidence that my body is capable of doing this again and I am so proud of running a personal best today.”
The marathon record holder, Eliud Kipchoge commented on Kamworor’s return;
“Congratulations my great friend!” He wrote.
