2017 brings us the fourth edition of Nairobi Restaurant Week, and the excitement for the event has only been increasing since its inception.
Not only does it help stamp Nairobi down as one of Africa’s greatest culinary treasures through solid menu pricing that allows for a lot more lunches and dinners at eclectic2 new locations, but it also comes at the tail end of what is usually a slump of a month for most people – fueling us for the next. At least it does that for me – I’ve participated in NRW since the beginning. It introduced me to what has become one of my favourite spots in the city – Sikia Restaurant at the Crown Plaza. And it helped highlight a little outdoorsy gem that I had discovered a while ago and had hoped would really find a crowd – About Thyme.
This year, the action kicks off on the 26th of January and ends on the 5th of February. Hopefully, there will be an extension – I tend to find it impossible to get through everything in just a week and a half.
According to event organizers Eatout, there will be over 69 restaurants that will take part this year – that means 60 potential favourite places with special price fixed menus kicking off from as little as 950 shillings. That’s perfect for sampling spots that you would perhaps never really have considered.
Absolut Vodka is on board this year and dinner menus will start from 1950 inclusive of an Absolut based drink. Yummy!
And there is actually a benefit of wading through copious amounts of food and drink this year – one super lucky person will be bagging themselves the chance to fly to Thailand (Bangkok) with a friend for the ultimate street tour courtesy of Holiday Bazaar and Emirates.
So yes. Eating your heart out will literally have your friends doing the same!
