Is Nairobi Ready For Its First Proper Grime Rave?

Our little city in the sun is growing up – and it looks as though the next couple of months are going to be heavy – music wise.

UK and East Africa Unite! – At least that’s what Equilibrium is hoping to do. It’s an events series focused on how to bridge the gap between the UK and East Africa scene and this will happen through a mash up of events that will look to allow fans to soak in the culture and the beauty of genres that make sense to both.

Equilibrium is split into two:

EQ White that has a focus on RnB, Deep Soul etc

EQ Black that focuses on trap, grime, drum and bass

And this weekend, it’s all about Grime.

We know the huge names blowing up the scene such as Stormzy and Skepta – so it’s only fitting that we pay attention to it while it’s hot.

The event will go down on the 6th of May and features a UK collective including Dj Wabba, Dj Young Jockey, DJ Lasta, DJ GI & The British Mandem (based in Toronto )– which then flows into a cypher comprising the top 254 rappers including Muthoni Drummer Queen, Marushka, Taio and Kiwango.

It all goes down at the Goethe Institute and tickets are available at the gate for 500 Kshs.

10% of ticket sales will go to the charity Msichana Empowerment Kuria an independent charity that stops Female Genital Mutilation in Kenya.
