Nairobi Fashion Week Showcases Diverse Summer Collections

In New York temperatures are just beginning to drop, but back home, summer is already underway. Which of course means that it’s almost time for Nairobi Fashion Week.

Fifteen designers from across the continent are slated to showcase their 2016 summer collections, starting on the evening of Nov. 28. The organizers say that this year’s Fashion Week will be the most memorable yet, taking place at the Garden City Mall outside of the city.

“We have award-winning designer coming South Africa, Ghana and Kenya,” the organizers said in a press release. “They’ve worked so hard and this is the moment they’re unveiling their collections.”

Designers to look out for include English-born Kenyan Chloe Mitchell, whose outstanding caps have been worn by Lupita and Ghana-based Bertha Owusu, whose label Lumiere Couture was just given a Glitz Style award. Returning to the event are Nairobi-native Yvonne Odhiambo of Afrostreet Kollektions and Ieky Williams of Dee Iyke Fashion House.

“Seeing them grow and come back, that’s the most uplifting,” said the event’s proprietor James Brian. “It’s inspiring for us.”

While waiting for Nov. 28 to come around, check out these stunning photos from last year’s Fashion Week:
