Muthoni Drummer Queen Unveils Her Latest EP “Monsoon”

Muthoni Drummer Queen (MDQ) has released her latest EP “Monsoon.” This three-track Afro-pop masterpiece seamlessly blends elements of Kenyan Pop and Afrobeats, offering listeners a unique sonic experience that reflects the distinctive voice of East Africa on a global stage. This adds to her rich discography that features releases like “River,” “Mambo Bado,” and “Welcome To The Disco” among others.

The EP’s title, “Monsoon” serves as a metaphor symbolizing the influence of African music on global genres. “As an artist, I always strive to experiment and create my own sound,” explains MDQ. “With ‘Monsoon,’ I wanted to tap into my lifelong love of pop music and infuse it with elements of Kapuka, R&B, and Afro-beats.” She adds.

Drawing inspiration from the monsoon winds that shape weather patterns in the East African region, MDQ cleverly weaves together themes of cultural identity and musical influence. “I wanted a unique name that speaks to my East African identity and embodies the rhythmic nature of the music on the EP.” Shares MDQ.

From the early infatuation stage depicted in “Bure” to the complexities of the talking stage in “Pomoni,” and finally, the importance of consistency in relationships highlighted in “Consistency,” MDQ offers listeners a nuanced portrayal of love and commitment.

Collaborating with a team of talented Kenyan musicians and producers, MDQ brings her vision to life on “Monsoon.” Working with acclaimed producers such as So Fresh, Wuod Omollo, and Dillie, as well as esteemed songwriters like Wuod Omollo and Ywaya Tajiri, MDQ crafts a cohesive and engaging musical journey. Additional contributions from creatives such as Shem Obara, Mutua Matheka, and Musa Omusi further enrich the EP’s diverse and dynamic sound.
