MTV Shuga 5 Cast is EVERYTHING and More!

Since the first season of MTV Shuga, this has been a program that has been at the fore front of educating the youth about infidelity, HIV/AIDS and the stigma that comes with it, never mind the drama, music, love and sex that comes with the series.

Following the success of the first four seasons, shot in Kenya and Nigeria, Shuga is now gearing for the fifth season that will be shot in South Africa. Research has shown that young girls in South Africa, especially between the years of 15 and 24, are vulnerable to HIV infection and unplanned pregnancies which makes ladies between this ages at higher risk of contracting the virus. It is for this reason, and the need to tackle these issues first hand, that the fifth season will be shot in Mzanzi.

Adding to the cast is Tanzanian superstar Vanessa Mdee as “Storm”, a dissatisfied trophy wife who has eyes for other fellas. Shot in the cool clubs, cosy spots and local schools of Braamfontein and “Zenzele”, a made up town, there are some cast members who will be returning to the show. Ikubese Emmanuel Ifeanyi (or if that name is too hard, just Mr. World 2014), returns as ‘Femi’, a Nigerian music promoter who’s been living with HIV for 4 years.

You know 254’s golden boy in film (are we allowed to call him that now?), Nick Mutuma, also returns to season 5 as ‘Leo’, the only Kenyan and the classic bad boy who is trying to escape his troubled past.

The premiere of MTV Shuga will air on MTV Base (DStv Channel 322) and BET (DStv Channel 129), as well as other broadcasters, MTV networks and third party broadcasters around the world from 8 March 2017.

Besides that, the MTV Shuga Campaign will also have a radio drama series, peer educator programme, comic book, mobile information service, social media and a range of digital platforms in a bid to spread the word around to as many people as possible.

As we wait for that to come in the next year, catch up with This Is It, a Nigerian web series that follows the life of two newlyweds through their first year of marriage, with Nick Mutuma as the lead actor.
