Modern Afrocentric Stories Through ‘New Normal’ Challenge

It’s always a delight to see spectacular African stories being propagated.

PICHA, a visual content provider is doing just that by telling stories of Africans and black communities globally through photography with the aim of changing the narrative and perception of Africans.

The brand was founded on the realization that perceptions of Africans in the world are not always the reality of Africans or black communities. Hence, they embarked on creating Afrocentric stories, bringing to life the voices and faces of modern Africans.

This year, to help in the fight against COVID 19, PICHA rolled out a COVID 19 collection for individuals and organizations to use in creating informative and engaging visual content that empowers.

While telling stories of Africans is at the heart of what they do, they are also committed to supporting their contributing photographers. And during the lockdown, PICHA launched a series of challenges that kept the photographers on their toes.

KenyanVibe got to partner with PICHA on ‘The New Normal Challenge’ in October through December. The exercise tasked the photographers to capture images depicting what the new normal looks like; getting back to business after lockdown.

The New Normal attracted quite a number of entries with images ranging from changes small businesses are making to their offices or their service offerings to hygiene practices to social distancing, eLearning, remote working, and so on.

The winner was finally unveiled last week, and  Gloria Mwivanda emerged top with an image of online graduation.
