‘Matrix Resurrection’ Was More Than a Dream Come True- Mumbi Maina

Actress Mumbi Maina was more than impressed and honored working with American Hollywood superstars Keanu Reeves and actress Jada Pinkett while shooting the third installment of The Matrix in 2020.

Opening up on how she landed the role to appear in the highly anticipated movie, the actress said she got an email from the relevant party confirming that she had landed the job thanks to her impressive previous jobs.

She traveled to the US in the middle of the pandemic to shoot the movie, something that is still surreal to her.

“I was there for about 6 weeks, I got the role because of my character in ‘Sense 8’ before. I was very excited when I got the email. In the middle of Covid? look what happened.” said Mumbi Maina.

Landing the role was a big thing for her but meeting the leading actors, Reeves and Pinkett left her star-struck.

“Meeting Keanu was a highlight for sure, he is the most down-to-earth person that I have ever met. It was so exciting, he made it easy and put a lot of perspective into how we treat other people.” Mumbi added.

Mumbi first announced she will be in the movie’s latest installation Resurrection, via social media in September 2021, a year after landing the deal.

“Yes. This. Happened. Click the link in my bio. I’ll be back when I’m done…screaming!!!!” Mumbi wrote on Instagram.

She kept the news on the down-low, up until a day to the release of the trailer, which will be on September 9, 2021.

Mumbi got international acclaim for her role in the Netflix show Sense8.

She also starred in Mali in 2011 for which she won a Kalasha award, Kati Kati in 2016, and Nollywood thriller La Femme Anjola in 2021.

The official premiere of The Matrix Resurrection was held at Westgate mall on Wednesday 22. In attendance were ICT CS Joe Mucheru and leading Kenyan thespians such as June Gachuhi, Pascal Tokodi, Sarah Hassan.
