Prominent Kenyan boy band Sauti Sol recently announced their breakup after 20 years together causing a social media frenzy and leaving many fans in shock.
According to to the music group, they have decided to take a break and focus on individual projects.
“We are not sure how long the break will be, but we know that it is important for us to step away from the band for a while to focus on our individual growth,” the group said in a statement.
Radio personality, Maina Kageni, was one of the many kenyan celebrities to voice his feelings regarding the break up while also appreciating the group for what they have done for Kenyan music.
“Go well and enjoy your hiatus and may you do your personal projects successfully,” Kageni said, during his morning show on Classic 105.
Kageni added he is also impressed with the new artists that have emerged from Sauti Sol, such as Fathermoh and Ssaru.
Sauti Sol’s break will begin after their upcoming tour across the US, Europe, and Canada. The tour will start on May 21, 2023, and will end on December 16, 2023.
Sauti Sol is a Kenyan afro-pop band formed in 2005. The band consists of four members: Bien-Aimé Baraza, Willis Chimano, Savara Mudigi, and Polycarp Otieno.
They have won numerous awards, including the BET Award for Best International Group.
