Lupita Nyong’o Celebrates Fellow Kenyan Kennedy Odede On MLK Day

Monday, Jan 2022 marked MLK Day in the United States and Academy Award Winner, Lupita Nyong’o celebrated the holiday by honouring a fellow Kenyan.

The actor shared a message on her social media, celebrating Kennedy Odede’s philanthropy;

“This MLK Day, I’m reminded of the story of fellow Kenyan, Ken Odede.”

“Struggling to find a path out of Kibera, Kennedy discovered Dr. King’s literature at a community centre and said;

“[he] gave me a reason to believe you can change your own life and change your community.”

“Kennedy then created Shining hope for communities which builts urban promise by providing critical services and community advocacy platforms to people living in slums, as well as education for women and girls.” She wrote


MLK Day (Martin Luther King Jr. Day) is is a federal holiday in the United States marking the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr.

The holiday is observed on the third Monday of January each year.

Born in 1929, King’s actual birthday is on Jan. 15.

President Joe Biden shared;

“On Martin Luther King, jr Day, we must protect the hard-fought he helped achieve-and continue his unfinished struggle for a freer and more just society by raising our voices to confront abuses of power, challange hate and discrimination, and protect the right to vote.”

Former President Barrack Obama, Michelle Obama, Beyoncè and other stars marked the day on their social sites as well.

Ken Odede thanked Lupita for the acknowledgement.
