Lupita Nyong’o Bags Two Awards At The NAACP Image Awards

Multi-award-winning Kenyan actress, Lupita Amondi Nyong’o has bagged the Best Actress award for her role in “Us” and also won the Outstanding Literary work fo children with her book, Sulwe.

Nyong’o, alongside director of US, Jordan Peele, walked away with awards at the 51st NAACP Image Awards which held on Saturday, February 22, in Los Angeles, California. Peele won for Outstanding Writing in a Motion Picture.

Taking to Instagram, Lupita posted showing nothing but excitement.

Nyong’o won Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture, beating out the likes of Cynthia Erivo and Jodie Turner-Smith. Erivo and Turner-Smith were nominated for their performances in Harriet and Queen & Slim, respectively.

“Oh my goodness I just got the news about the best actress award from the NAACP Image Awards for the movie US, I just wanna say thank you so much,” she said. “I’m so sorry that I couldn’t be there myself.”

The National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People, NAACP, Image Awards, honour outstanding performances in film, television, music and literature by people of colour.

“I’m away in my homeland doing some work and l I just want to share how honoured I am, so so deeply honoured for this kind of recognition,” Lupita went on.

Lizzo won Entertainer of The Year and Rihanna received the honorary President’s Award. Lil Nas X, was named Outstanding New Artist.
