Lupita Kicks Off New Year Early with Essence Cover

She’s on the cover again!

Lupita looks absolutely gorgeous on the cover of Essence’s January issue, making this the 32-year-old stunner’s second magazine cover in less than a year.

Still rocking it off-Broadway in Danai Gurira’s fresh new play “Eclipsed,” Lupita will be making her Broadway premiere in February when Gurira’s play is expected to head over to the Great White Way.

“I didn’t grow up seeing African women onstage very often, much less African women in African stories,” Lupita told Essence. “I was in love with the world Danai created.”

Lupita also revealed that “Eclipsed” was exactly what she needed to find herself again.

“After ’12 Years a Slave’ and the quote-unquote meteoric rise, I felt like there was a moment where I was suffering from whiplash,” she said. “I had talked so much about who I was that I’d forgotten who I was.”

Check out Lupita’s moving speech at the 2014 Black Women in Hollywood luncheon below and make sure to pick up Essence’s January issue when it hits the stands on Dec. 4.
