Lupita And Katwe Cast Celebrate NAACP Nominations

“If you don’t understand my record, you don’t understand me, so this is not for you.” – Master P

Solange had one of 2016’s most thoughtful, creative and most unapologetically Black albums – a piece of work that truly spoke to the love, beauty and harmony of people of colour in the United States and worldwide. But it was also angry. It spoke to the state of the world we are currently living in now. Music, film and art in general over 2016 has moved in the same direction. Solange’s sister shook the world with Lemonde – a visual ode to Blackness and relationships. And Uganda was thrown into the limelight with the release of Queen of Katwe – the Lupita Nyongo and David Oyelewo driven movie about a young girl and adream.

The NAACP Image Awards celebrate blackness. And the nominees for this year’s even have been announced: including four mentions for Lupita and her Queen Cast. This is going to be a tough event to judge.
