Lupita Counts Down Her Biggest 2016 Moments

She’s been blazing trails for years now and 2016 has definitely been good for her.

A-Lister Lupita Nyong’o has over the past few weeks been counting down some of her most memorable moments – and really, she’s seemingly living the life. But it hasn’t come easy – she puts in the work and takes her acting roles seriously. From a stellar performance in Queen of Katwe to some eyebrow raising dance numbers on Lip Sync Battle, Lupita continues to prove her versatility not only as an actress but as an all round entertainer.

So what were some of the biggest highlights?

The Hamilton Cast has been making waves over the past couple of years with a phenomenal script and cast – and she basically lived out one of my bucket list entries – hanging out with them and wallowing in their greatness. Although I’m sure they were a little star struck as well. That, plus her LipSync battle win were definitely fun moments from the year that has been!

Ah yes. “Qweening” – the media storm that was, following the release of the well known Disney movie “Queen of Katwe”. The cast embraced their African roots and brought colour and vitality to red carpets across the World during premiere screenings. Absolutely everything we wanted to see.

Not content to wow us on the big screen alone in 2016, she also debuted a very well received Broadway play that once again put women (black women at that) at its center. Top marks for some top reviews across the board.

Using her very powerful voice to show that we all have power is another way she reigned in 2016 – Lupita has always expressed herself with strength and is a great representation of a young woman with great focus and the desire to excel. She likes to party also, so a bit of a break in fabulous Bali wasn’t too shabby either!

We can’t wait to see what happens next for Ms. Nyong’o – she’s been selective with her projects and that approach seems to have borne fruit. Who knows where the road will take her in 2017 – but we will certainly be keeping our eyes open!
