According to a gossipy article published by British tabloid Daily Mail yesterday, Lupita has been called an “ice cold diva” and a “manipulative b***h” by costars from Danai Gurira’s play “Eclipse.”
The comments in the article, which are credited to an unnamed source, claim that “[Lupita] doesn’t speak to anyone when she’s not on stage and in character.”
“Eclipse” has been running at The Public Theatre in New York City since Oct. 15 and has now garnered enough critical acclaim to be promised a move to Broadway in the beginning of next year. Lupita, who plays the role of a young woman oppressed by a Liberian rebel hand, will thereby be making her Broadway debut.
Daily Mail’s unnamed source claims that the upcoming release of Star Wars VII combined with the announcement of “Ecplised” moving to Broadway has resulted in Lupita becoming self-centered and “unbothered by the discord she’s caused backstage.”
“She knows that the only thing she has to do is wear her designer fashions, flash her dazzling smile and she will win over the masses,” the source said. “She’s so good at playing the ‘damsel in distress’ role that many people think she’s really an ingénue but her backstage behavior only exacerbates the fact that she’s an ice, cold, untouchable diva.”
While there seems to be a lot of emotions at stake here, one can’t help but wonder if there might be a hidden agenda behind these comments. This story is still unraveling, so expect more coverage in the coming days.
