Showmax on Wednesday, May 18 held an exclusive, invite-only party at Nairobi Street Kitchen in Westlands to screen the first episode of their new Kenyan thriller “Igiza”.
The series, set to start showing on May 23, has award-winning actress Serah Ndanu Teshna and actor Blessing Lung’aho as the lead actors.
The 13-part series also stars Kevin Samuel (Mali), Emmanuel Mugo (Pillow Talk), Torome Sision (Monica), Keith Chuaga (Famous) and Eddie Mbugua (You Again). It has been directed by director and producer Abdi Shuria .
Speaking on her role in the series during the launch, Teshna said she was a little bit under pressure while shooting but glad everything was smooth.
“Igiza being a first of its kind and also having this much pressure, I was always dreading those scenes of Linda and Nicole together but I’m so happy that they turned out to be some of the best scenes,” Serah Ndanu said.
Denise Mwende, Showmax Content Specialist in East Africa said the project was not only special to Showmax but to the Kenyan industry film as well.
“It’s been a good year for local content at Showmax. As a key player in the entertainment industry, we are proudly Africa’s greatest storyteller. The episode you’re about to watch tonight is one of our proudest yet, not just because we’ve had the chance to collaborate with world-class talent on a local stage but we also get to share these stories with the world, where even Kenyans in the UK and other parts of the diaspora have a taste of home,” she said.
Set against the backdrop of Nairobi’s fashion industry and the money laundering business, Igiza is a story of revenge between twin sisters Linda and Nicole.
